Australia had a tough task ahead of them on the fifth day of the first test match. They had lost three days and had to save the day against the likes of Yasir Shah and Bilal Asif. At this crucial juncture Usman Khawaja took the responsibility and along with Travis Head and Tim Paine saved the match for Australia.
Khawaja made 141 off 302 balls while Travis Head 72 off 175 balls. When everything was going great for Australia after the first two sessions, Yasir Shah took 3 wickets in quick succession. It looked like that Pakistan will win the match after great fighting spirit by Aussies; however, Tim Paine had other plans. He along with Nathan Lyon made sure that Australia saves the match as he remained unbeaten at 61 off 194 balls.
Yasir Shah took 4 wickets including the one of Usman Khwaja while Mohammad Abbas took 3 wickets for 56 runs. Mohammad Hafeez took 1 wicket.
I wasn’t really thinking too much. We had a belief in the team that if we batted well in the first session, which we did, we could take it to the end. Credit to the Pakistanis as well, they played in tremendous spirit. Every time you get a hundred for Australia it is amazing; I am very privileged to be playing for them. There was rough on both sides of the wicket for a left-hander and that is why I had a plan.
