Tennis Round Up US Open: Defending Champion Rafael Nadal Is Not Participating This Years US Open. Amid The Rising Covid 19 Situation The Tennis Star Decided to Pull Out.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal has announced that he is not going to be the part of US Open this year. Addressing to his fans in social media post Rafael Nadal confirmed that he is not going to be the part of US Open. He tweeted “After many thoughts I have decided not to play this year’s US Open. The situation is very complicated worldwide, the COVID-19 cases are increasing, it looks like we still don’t have control of it.”

“We know that the reduced tennis calendar is barbaric this year after 4 months stopped with no play, I understand and thank for the efforts they are putting in to make it happen. We have just seen the announcement of Madrid not being played this year.”

The US Open set begin from 31st of August 2020 and Nadal is the defending champion.

Says Never Wanted to Take Such Decision

Nadal respected the efforts of organizers for trying to put the event together for fans and players. He said he never wanted to take such decision but the current in the current situation, he has decided not to travel.

“All my respects to the USTA, the US Open organizers and the ATP for trying to put the event together for the players and the fans around the world through TV.” “This is a decision I never wanted to take but I have decided to follow my heart this time and for the time being I rather not travel” -Tweeted Nadal

Reacting to the decision of Nada the US Open Stacey Allaster said

“I know our fans will be disappointed to not have Rafa playing this year’s Western & Southern Open and U.S. Open,” Allaster said. “However, for the fans and and the sport, we look forward to being inspired by him when he decides he’s ready to play.” “Rafa is one of the greatest champions in our sport and we support his decision.”

Earlier world number 1 rank women player Ash Braty pulled out of the tournament due to Covid  19 pandemic issue.

“My team and I have decided that we won’t be travelling to the US, and (the) Western and Southern Open and the US Open this year,”

“I love both events so it was a difficult decision,” Barty said in a statement sent to Australian media outlets on Thursday. “But there are still significant risks involved due to Covid-19, and I don’t feel comfortable putting my team and I in that position.”
