What happened to Shikhar Dhawan?
The Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan got hit on the thumb during the match against Australia. He was struck by a rising delivery of Australian fast bowler Nathan Coulter Nile. Dhawan was closely monitored and management was hoping him to recover in time. However, after assessing his injury and with the specialist opinion it was found that he will not be available until mid of July. Ending any hope of him returning to the tournament, Pant who was named as a cover for Dhawan will now be the part of Team India. BCCI has made an official request to ICC for the inclusion of Rishab Pant in the team. If Pant was not announced as replacement team India would have only 13 player to choose from as Bhuvneshwar is already out for 3 matches due hamstring injury.

Pant is in some red hot form, he has already done well in England. Even his omission from world cup Squad became the topic of heated debate. Many former cricketers also advocated his inclusion in the Squad. Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Gavaskar and Kevin Peterson supported Rishab Pant’s inclusion in the team. Pant will bring in that extra X factor with his attacking game, he has already done well in England when he played the test match series here.
Sunil Gavaskar on Pant As a Replacement
“..it has to be Rishabh Pant. He has been in cracking hot form in the IPL. He would probably want to show that he deserved to be in the team in the first place,” Gavaskar told India Today when asked about his pick for a replacement if Dhawan is ruled out.”
