India wins the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka

India defeated Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI of the current 3 match one day series by 141 runs. Rohit Sharma scored his 3rd double century in ODIs. Now both the teams stand 1-1 in the series and the thrid match will decide who takes the trophy.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first to take advantage of the surroundings. India opened with skipper Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Both of them started cautiously; however, Shikhar Dhawan was aggressive of two and completed his half century first. He was out in 22nd over when the scoreboard showed 115. Dhawan scored 68 from 67 balls hitting 9 fours. Shreyas Iyer playing his 2nd ODI came to the field to bat with skipper. The young lad played confidently and both the batsmen rotated the strike without any issue. They added 213 runs for the 2nd wicket. Iyer completed his half-century in 38th over while Rohit completed his century in 40th over. Iyer was departed soon after scoring 88 from 70 balls. He hit 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Rohit Sharma completed his century and decided to score quick runs in slog overs. He hit the top form after that and started hitting sixes at will. He got his hundred in 40th over and completed his double century in 50th overs. His second 100 took 36 balls. Sri Lanka had no answer to the carnage of last 10 overs. India scored 392-4 in their full quota of 50 overs.

Thisara Perera took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka. Sachith Pathirana took 1 wicket. Nuwan Pradeep was most expensive bowler as he gave 106 run in his 10 overs.

Angleo Matthews’ valiant effort goes in vain

In reply Sri Lanka could never match the run rate as thhey kep losing wickets at regular intervals. Only Angelo Matthews scored 111 not out in 132 balls which was not enough. Asela Gunaratne was the 2nd highest scorer for Sri Lanka with 34 runs. Noroshan Deickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka scored 22 and 16 runs respectively. Sri Lanka could score 251-8 after completing 50 overs.

India’s bowling performance

Yuzvendra Chahal took 3 wickets while Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya and Washinton Sunder took 1 wicket each.
