BCCI Plans For IPL 2020:
Ever since the reports of World T-20 difficulties emerged BCCI continuously looking for the opportunity of finding window for IPL 2020. They are just waiting for ICC to make the announcement so they can use the vacated window. However, as soon as India moved in unlock phase the Covid-19 situation started to get worsen. There are already more 6 lacs Covid-19 case in India. Situation in India is definitely not favorable for organizing any sporting activity.
A BCCI official in a conversation with IANS revealed that 13th edition of IPL might get staged outside India.
“We are yet to decide on the venue but in all probability, it is going outside this year. The condition in India doesn’t look suited to have so many teams come in at one or two venues and then create an atmosphere which will be safe for the players as well as the general public even though the games may be played behind closed doors.”
“The race is between UAE and Sri Lanka and we will need to decide on where we host the league depending on the situation there with regards to the coronavirus pandemic. Logistics also need to be looked into, so we will decide soon.”
BCCI has done same thing in past as well, the whole 2009 season was hosted in South Africa and year 2014 the first leg of IPL was staged in UAE. Keeping mind that UAE has also staged Asia cup in 2018 along with IPL in 2014. UAE is clear front runner.
IPL chairman Brijesh Patel had recently stated that location was not a concern as the UAE and the Sri Lankan cricket boards had voiced their approval to play hosts. Cricketing fans in India are very happy with the development.
