The fourth running of the Indy Car Grand Prix began on May 13, 2017. Drivvers started practice for Indy 500 on May 15, 2017. Qualifying race was held on May 20-21, 2017. Winner of the 2008 Indy 500 Scott Dixon won the pole position with average spped of 232.64 mph. This was Scott’s third Indy pole. His qualifying speed of 232.164 mph (373.632 km/h) was the fastest pole speed since 1996. Indy 500 live stream will be available at WatchESPN.
In addition the race can be followed with IndyCar Race Control also, which is a live timing service. For television viewers the television coverage of the qualifying will begin at 4 p.m. ET. Second placed belonged to Ed Carpenter with the average speed of 231.664 mph. Alexander Rossi the champion of 2016 Indianapolis 500 (As a rookie) won the third place in qualifying race with the average speed of 231.365 mph. Japanese driver Takuma Sato remained on fourth place with the average speed of 231.365 mph. Two time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso got to fifth position with the average speed of 231.300 mph.
With average speed of 230.889 mph sixth position belonged to J.R. Hildebrand. Brazilian racing driver Tony Kanaan got to seventh place in the qualifying race with average speed of 230.828 mph. The last three place in top 10 belonged to Marco Andretti, Will Power and Ryan Hunter-Reay with average speed of 230.474 mph, 230.200 mph and 231.442 mph respectively. Ryan Huner-Reay could not start in the top three rows as he didn’t make the Fast Nine on Saturday.
Final day of practice and the annual Pit Stop Challenge are scheduled on May 26, 2017. Apart from the practice and Pit Stop Challenge; support races featuring the Road to Indy which will include the Freedom 100 for Indy Lights series will also be held on May 26.
