ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Favorite England In Danger of Getting Out of The World Cup

They say cricket is a very funny game you’re as good as you current performance on the day. Your past performance doesn’t guarantee anything. World Cup host England who have been billed as favorite to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 now finds themselves in a very trick position. On Tuesday England lost their match against Australia with a margin of 64 runs. Thanks to a special performance by Jason Behrendorff  who took 5/44 and decimated England batting. England could manage 221 before getting bowled out in 44.4 overs. England now currently at 4th position with 8 points with 4 wins and 3 losses. However, they got only two games to play and these two games are against India and New Zealand.

What Happened In The Match:

Many experts believed England has the upper hand in this encounter considering their form and home condition advantage. England won the toss and decided to bowl first, Australia got off to a good start with Warner hitting fifty and caption finch hitting 100. The both provided a solid opening stand of 123 runs. It looked like that Australia will cruise to a total between 330-350. But England bowler did exceptionally well to restrict the opposition at 285/7. Chris Woakes picked up 2 wickets while Archer, Ali, Stokes and Wood took 1 wicket each.

With only 286 to chase England was clear favorite, however, their chase begun on a poor note as they lost James Vince without a score to Jason Behrendorff. Then Mitchell Starc removed the pillar England batting Joe Root trapping him in-front of the wicket. And that brought England captain Eoin Morgan to the crease but his stay was short lived as Starc removed him at score were for, England were tottering at 26/3. They were looking up to Bairstow to revive the English inning, however, Jason Behrendorff had other plans as he sent Jonny back in the hut and England were 53/4. None of the English batsman apart from Ben Stokes could make significant contribution. Stokes played a fine inning of 89 but his lone effort was not enough. Not a single point of time England looked in the game during the chase. Behrendorff took 5/44 while Starc took 43/4.

What this Defeat Has Done to England Chances:

England has 8 points from their 7 matches and their last two matches are against India and New Zealand, England must win these matches. However, it will not be easy considering the form both India and England are in. Now this has opened chances for three teams Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Bangladesh has 7 points from 7 matches and yet to play against India and Pakistan. Sri Lanka has 6 points from 6 matches and yet play against India, South Africa and West Indies.
