Surprise In ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Stand-by Players
There was a huge debate over the exclusion of Rishab Pant and Ambati Raydu from India’s world cup team. Now even in the standby we three surprises. Pant and Raydu’s names were quite obvious, however, other three came as a surprise.
Sharma’s name in standby players came as a surprise. Ishant Sharma is regular in the test team, however, he has not been picked for ODIS for quite a long time. He last played ODI for India in the year 2016. Speaking to IANS a BCCI official said, “You can’t buy an experience in the market, he (Ishant) is an experienced campaigner and has matured over time. If a situation arises he would come in very handy.”
Another surprise is the name of young fast bowler Navdeep Saini. Saini hasn’t represented India in any of the formats, though he is considered as an emerging talent for his performance in domestic cricket. Navdeep Saini is one the four (Navdeep Saini, Avesh Khan, Deepak Chahat and Khaleel Ahmed) bowlers who will assist Team India in practice. His name is surprising as lots of time has been invested on Khaleel Ahmed.
Axar Patel is another surprise, he has been in and out of the Indian team hasn’t played lately. The selectors did not use the same yardstick which the used for Ishant. Had they gone by the same logic then test regular Ashwin would have found the place. Ashwin would have brought lots of experience to the table.
