George Russell Will Replace Lewis Hamilton In Sakhir GP: Mercedes Thanks Williams Racing For The Flexibility
Yesterday there was big breaking news as Lewis Hamilton Tested Positive for Coronavirus it raised the big question who will replace him in Sakhir GP now F1 fans have finally found an answer. Mercedes AMG today made it clear that it will be George Russel who will drive as a replacement of Lewis Hamilton. In their official announcement Mercedes thanks Williams Racing for their flexibility and allowing George Russel to drive for Mercedes. Here is what they have tweeted about it

- It will be first time there will be no champion driving Mercedes car
“First and foremost, I wish to thank our loyal partners at Williams for their collaboration and open-mindedness in making it possible for George to race for Mercedes this weekend. The conversation with the team at Williams were positive and pragmatic and those were the key factors in reaching an agreement.” It will not be a straightforward task for George to make the transition from the Williams to W11, but he is race-ready and has detailed understanding of the 2020 tyres and how they perform on this generation cars. George has shown impressive form this year with Williams, playing and instrumental role in their climb up the grid and I am optimistic the he will deliver a strong performance alongside Valtteri, who will be a demanding reference for him.”

“This race will mark a small milestone for us, as we see a member of our junior programme compete for the works Mercedes team for the first time. We have a job to do this weekend, and the full focus of our sporting efforts will be behind Valtteri and George in order to maximize our points score as a team. But, of course, our thoughs are also, with Lewis, and we will be supporting him as much as we can to make a rapid recovery during this period of self-isolation.”
Sakhir GP is going to very interesting as for the first time Bahrain International Outer circuit will be used. There will be three drivers making they debut for different teams.
- George Russel- Debuting for Mercedes
- Jack Aitken – Debuting for Williams
- Pietro Fittipaldi- Debuting for Haas Ferrari
Interesting fact is it will be the first time when there will be no F1 champion driving the Mercedes car

George Russel On Being Selected For Mercedes AMG for Sakhir GP
George Russel was very happy man after getting the confirmation for Mercedes. He himself found and interesting fact, drivers are finding it difficult to get and F1 seat every year and he is lucky to drive for two different team in the same season. The Briton also, thanked everybody at Williams for allowing for the opportunity and vowed that he is 100% Williams driver. He would use this opportunity to learn from the best and comeback stronger to fight for the points.

George Russell Performance Analysis In Season 2020
Lets take a look at the performance of British Driver George Russell who will replace Lewis Hamilton. It has been a good season for Williams driver and he was able to produce some impressive performance this season. Though he yet to score a point this season, however, his efforts in qualifying has largely being applauded.
George Russell Performance Analysis
Here are some of the key points of his performance this year
- His best finish in race came in Tuscan GP where he finished 11th and nearly missed the point.
- Russell’s best qualifying performance was 12th place which he achieved twice, Styria & Hungarian GP
- Russell has suffered 4 retirements this season
- His worst qualifying performance is 19th which came in Italian GP
- George’s worst performance in race apart from retirement is 18 which came in Hungarian GP
- He is very consistent when it comes to making it to Q2
- Russell made to Q2 on 9 occasions.
The interesting observation from this data, Russell hardly capitalizes on his qualifying performance. In fact, his qualifying and race performances are exactly opposite. His best qualifying performance was 12th Styria & Hungary. In Styrian GP he finished 16 and in Hungarian GP he finished 18th one of his worst performances. On the other hand, his best race performance came in Tuscan GP with 11th place, however, if you see the qualifying result he finished 18th.
Williams Announce The Replacement As Well
Williams racing after allowing George Russel to drive for Mercedes have announced the replacement for George Russel. They roped in the 25 years old Jack Aitken. He will be making his F1 debut at Sakhir GP this weekend. Jack Aitken competed in F2 racing this year, he had a tough season this year. Aitken finished 14th in drivers standing with 48 points. Mick Schumacher topped the F2 Drivers’ Standings with 205 points. The Haas Ferrari has just confirmed he will be driving for them in year 2021.
