Wimbledon 2017 Women’s final
In the Wimbledon women’s 2017 final Garbine Muguruza defeated Venus Williams for her first Wimbledon title. This was a one side win. This was a relief for the Spanish player as she won her first Wimbledon title after losing to Serena Williams 2 years ago. Venus Williams fought hard in the first set as she lost it by 7-5; however, she lost the second set badly by 6-0. Wimbledon 2017 Women’s final Match lasted for 1 hour and 17 minutes.

Garbine Muguruza said after the match: “She’s such an incredible player. I grew up watching her play so it’s incredible to play the final [against her] here. Of course I’m nervous. I’ve always dreamed to be here. The first set was very tough. We both had a lot of chances. Serena told me two years ago that one day I was going to win. So here I am.”

Venus Williams congratulated the Spanish player and said: “Well done today. Beautiful,”. She further said, “There have been a lot of beautiful moments the past couple of weeks.”

This was Garbine Muguruza’s second grand slam title. She had earlier won French Open when she defeated Serena Williams. She is the only player to beat both Williams sisters in grand slam finals. Muguruza defeated Svetlana Cuznetsova in quarterfinal. In semifinal she defeated Magdalena Rybarikova.

Garbine Muguruza shattered Venus Williams plan to become the oldest woman to to win a grand slam in professional era. 37 years old Venus has Sjogren’s Syndrome which causes joint pain and fatigue. The disease caused her ranking to drop drastically; however, she fought hard and came back to court. She played a great very good tennis here and kudos to her for reaching the final. Venus defeated Jelena Ostapenko in quarterfinal. She defeated johanna Konta in semifinal to reach final.
