Spanish GP 2017: Catalunya, The House of Ferrar with 12 Wins, McLaren & William Tied at 8
Spanish GP 2017 will take place from 12-14 May 2017. If Sochi was the house of Mercedes then Ferrari enjoys the stronghold at Barcelona. It will interesting to see the local hero Alonso in action here. His team McLaren also enjoys the fair bit of success here.
Look At Last Years Results:
Spanish GP 2017 is just weeks away, let’s take a look at the previous year’s results. Last year winner was Max Verstappen from Redbull, Kimmi Raikkonen who score the fastest lap in Sochi was second.
The Russian GP winner Valtteri Bottas claimed the 5th position. The current table leader Sabstein Vettel was at the 3rd position.
Catalunya not only enjoyed by Ferrari but it was also a happy hunting ground of F1 great Michael Schumacher. He won an astonishing 6 races at Barcelona. Out of those 6, 4 victories came on the trot from 2001 to 2004.
The Catalunya Circuit:
The Grand Prix was held here in 1991, the circuit length is 4.655 Km. The race is 66 laps and total distance is of 307.104 Km. Fastest Lap record on Catalunya circuit is held by Kimmi Raikkonen. He clocked 1:21.670 back in 2008.
Barcelona’s mix of high- and low-speed corners, plus its abrasive and rather bumpy track surface, makes for a physically and mechanically taxing race.
Tyre wear is particularly high and the varying winds that cut across the circuit mean an optimum set-up can be hard to find.
The Local Hero Fernando Alonso:
Alonso who is also regarded as the fastest driver won Spanish GP in 2013. He two-time champion. He is currently racing for McLaren. McLaren hasn’t had a good season so far. Alonso has scored 22 fastest laps so far, he would look to make a comeback for his team at Spanish GP 2017.
Alonso has won 32 races in his career. McLaren will be looking forward to a special performance from the local hero. But currently, he is at 20th position in driver’s standing.
