Diego Maradona is living football legend. He will visit India in the month of September on 18 and 19th. This visit will be his second visit to Kolkata.
During his visit to India, he will play a charity match against the former captain of India Sourav Ganguly on 19th Sept.
He said, “It is such an honor for me to be able to make this trip. Kolkata is a very special place and I have good memories from my trip there many years ago, the fans were fantastic. India is a very passionate football nation, and I look forward to meeting a whole new generation of fans while continuing to spread the overwhelming love that I have for this beautiful game.”
Satadru Dutta, who is the partner of 7d Ventures and Founder of Moksh Sports Ventures, the promoter of Maradona’s trip told PTI said, “This will be called the ‘Match for Unity’, and will not be an 11-a-side. We will try to ensure that Maradona remains in the spotlight. Besides Ganguly, there will be a host of other celebrities. We are finalizing the venue.”
There are plans for Maradona’s felicitation by Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerji.
Dutta said,”It will be followed by an award show where Maradona will be given the Lifetime Achievement award by the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.”
Further, he said, “We will also be having a football workshop with budding young talents as well.”
This match will be a great inspiration to the young players of Indian football team. This match is not just for charity but for all young Indians who wants to make their career in sports.
Maradona is a coach as well so he will teach some of his tricks to these young players.
