India is ready to host its biggest ever football tournament, the FIFA Under 17 Football World Cup. This is the World’s third biggest tournament. It will be held between 6 to 28 October in six cities.
With FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup, the expectation is to make football as the top game with a huge fan following like cricket. As tournament will be played in the very young Indian U-17 category hopes are high that the game will become more popular among children and adults as well and thus help in bringing India on the global map of football.
The world cup tournament will start in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai. Delhi being the capital of India only 2 rounds will be played here. It is because the condition of Delhi after Diwali becomes unfavorable like air pollution which will be at peak. This is all decided according to tournament director Javier Ceppi.
Mission XI Million, this is a legacy program of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, it reached another milestone by reaching out to one million children.
In this program, the one millionth child received memento, she is a girl and her name is Shrijna Subba.She is a student of Deorali Government Secondary School, Tadong.
On that occasion, present dignitaries were former India national team captain Bhutia, tournament director of U-17 World Cup 2017 Javier Ceppi, Sikkim Football Association president B K Roka and its general secretary Menla Ethenpa.
To raise the awareness of U-17 FIFA World Cup, sports Minister Vijay Goel gifted a football to all the MPs. This is done to raise awareness of this World Cup. Many Parliamentarians used this opportunity and played football and the event was started by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
It has been India’s dream to do well in football despite having an abundance of talent the level of football is yet to up. Hopeful U-17 World Cup will give wings to millions of children and adults. They can think beyond cricket.
