Spanish GP 2020 Qualifying race for the 6th round of Updated Calendar of Season 2020 got underway on Saturday. As many expected it looked like a battle between the two Mercedes. Hamilton set the early pace with flying lap of 01:15.584 which put him for the provisional pole. And no one could better the time set by Lewis Hamilton which resulted in an another pole position for this year. And Mercedes locked the front row again. It happened to be the 4th pole of this season and 92nd pole of the career for Hamilton and 5th at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya . Valtteri Bottas came second and with the timings of 1:15:643 followed by Max Verstappen 1:16.292. So, the top 3 of the championship board secured the top 3 position on the grid.

Spanish GP 2020 Qualifying Race Highlights

  • Lewis Hamilton set the early pace in the qualifying to put himself on provisional pole
  • He set the time of 1:15.584 which in the end proved to be good enough.
  • His teammate Vatteri Bottas finished second
  • With that Merceds locked the front row

HAMILTON: “I couldn’t go quicker on my second lap. The first one was decent which did the job thankfully”

BOTTAS: “I knew it was going to be close with Lewis, as always. I was improving throughout the session, especially in sector three, but it wasn’t quite enough. “It’s a long way down to Turn 1 tomorrow and I’ll be trying to get there first.”

VERSTAPPEN: “It’s the maximum we can do at the moment. I hope we can be a bit quicker in the race”

Drivers’ Standings Before Spanish GP 2020

Lewis Hamilton is still sitting on the top of championship table with a clear lead of 30 points over Max Verstappen. However, Max Vestappen has toppled Valtteri Bottas for the second place. It’s going to be close battle for the second place between Bottas & Verstappen, they are separated by just four points. Charles Leclerc doing some good work for Ferrari, he has scored two podiums in first five races. Considering the ability of the red car this year it seems to be a very good result. He is currently at 4th position with 45 points.
