F1 News: Sergio Perez Goes In Self Isolation; Racing Point Driver Waiting for His Covid-19 Test Result

Racing Point who have been a talking point for this season for their astonishing pace, currently have their driver Sergio Perez under self isolation. Perez took the step ahead of his inconclusive Covid-19 test. As per the current regulations and keeping the safety in mind all participating staffs have to under go Covid-19 testing on regular basis.  Perez teammate Lance Stroll had to represent the team in the pre race press conference as the Perez was self-isolation.

Racing Point team confirmed the air on his Sergio Perez’s absence; “Checo is not at the circuit today following an inconclusive test result,” he said.”He is self-isolating awaiting the results of a re-test.” Per a Racing Point spokesperson, a small group of team members that were in contact with Perez are self-isolating as a precaution and being re-tested, as is standard procedure.

So far F1 has reported the results of more than 15,000 COVID-19 tests and only two have been reported positive, luckily none of these attended the race.

What Happens If Sergio Perez Tests Positive For Covid1-19

Chase Carey, the F1 Chairman already made it clear that they have learnt their lesson from Australian GP cancellation in case any of the driver found positive the race will not be cancelled.

“We encourage teams to have procedures in place so if an individual has to be put in quarantine, we have the ability to quarantine them at a hotel and to replace that individual,” he said then

In case Perez gets tested positive for Covid-19 then Racing Point will use the reserve driver of Mercedes. There are two reserve Mercedes drivers  Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez . As part of their contract with Mercedes Racing Point can get access to reserve drivers of Mercedes if required. However, the chances of Stofflel Vandoorne driving for Racing Point are very slim as he supposed to prepare for Formula E season. So, it is highly likely if required Esteban Gutierrez will take Sergio’s place if required.  Esteban Gutierrez was last seen in action in 2016 season for Haas.

Racing Point Performance This Season

Racing Point has been very impressive during this season, they are currently fourth in the constructor’s standing only 1 point behind McLaren. They have 40 points form first 3 races. Both Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll have been scoring points from last two races.
