England dominates the day 1 of the 3rd test of Ashes 2017-18


England dominated the first day of the third test match Australia. This is the third match of the ongoing Ashes 2017-18. Australia is ahead in the series by 2-0. David Malan scored his maiden hundred as England ended the day with 305-4.

England’s batting performance

England won the toss and opted to bat first. They started with former skipper Alaister Cook and Mark Stoneman. Cook again disappointed as he could only scored 7 runs from 16 balls. He was out in the 5th over of the series when Mitchell Starc got him Lbw. With this he hasn’t scored a half-century in his last 8 innings. James Vince then joined Stoneman and both added 63 runs for the 2nd wicket. At this juncture James Vince was out in 26th over of the inning. This time Josh Hazlewood got his first wicket of the inning as wicket keeper Tim Paine took the catch.

England skipper Joe Root came out to bat; however, couldn’t add many to the scoreboard. This time Pat Cummins toook his first wicket of the inning as Root was out caught behind. He could only score 20 from 23 balls. In the meantime Mark Stoneman completed his fifty by scoring a boundary in 28th over. He was soon out after scoring 56 from 110 balls as Starc got his 2nd wicker.

Ashes 2017-18

England’s inning revival

As England were struggling at 131-4, Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow started rebuilding the inning. Both of them played very well and kept Australian bowling at bay. David Malan completed his fifty in 59th over. His companion Jonny Bairstwo completed his fifty in 77th over.

Dawid Malan completes his maiden hundred

Dawid Malan soon complted his maiden hundred when he pulled Hazlewood in 85th over. He came goood when England was struggling. Dawid Malan ended the day at 110 from 174 balls while Jonny Bairstow scored 75 from 149 balls.

Australia’s bowling performance

In regards to Australian bowling Mitchell Starc took 2 wickets while Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins shared other 2 wickets. Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Marsh could not get any wicket. Skipper Steven Smith also tried his hand and bowled 3 overs; however, could not get any wicket.

On the 2nd day England will look to score a huge score while Australia would like to get these two batsmen out sooner than later.
