Corona Virus Outbreak Effect: IPL 13 Has Been Postponed Until April 15. Novel Corona Virus 2019 Has Forced BCCI To Postponed Their Lackluster Cricketing Event IPL 2020.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has to postpone this year’s IPL edition till 15th of April 2020 in the wake of Novel Corona Virus Outbreak. The announcement was made on 13th March 2020. There is already a health advisory which bans large gathering and Govt. of India has already suspended all travel visas till April 15, 2020. This Government directive bars foreign players from attending the tournament. Hence, BCCI has decided to postpone the IPL which was scheduled to start from 29th of March 2020 and it was considered as a major tournament for ICC World T-20 preparation.

As Quoted by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah the current IPL 2020 will remain suspended till April 15. Here are the quotes from the official website.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation. The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience. The BCCI will work closely with the Government of India along with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and all other relevant Central and State Government departments in this regard.”

 

Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya yet to be seen in action as the three-match series against South Africa got called off. Now IPL is the tournament where he can regain his form and prove his fitness as he is considered to be a vital cog in India T-20 team. Similarly, there will be other players who would like to get auditioned for the ICC World T-20 this year. The fans who were eagerly waiting to see their here MS Dhoni in action will have to wait longer. MS Dhoni supposed to captained the CSK team against MI in the opening encounter on March 29th.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli is also going through a lean bad patch, IPL 2020 is important to form him as well, he would like to regain and his form with IPL 13. Now since the tournament has been postponed, it will be interesting to see if BCCI makes some changes in the format to fit the smaller window.
