What a day it could be if English batting line up would have fought a little hard, that’s the Joe Root and Co should be asking themselves. In the 2nd test match of Ashes 2017 Australia defeated England by 120 runs. England started the day with 176-4 and needed 178 more runs to level the series.
Australia started the bowling with Hazlewood while Chris Woakes was facing him. On the 2nd ball of the 1st over of the day Woakes was out as Paine took the catch. Woakes could not add anything to the scoreboard. Moeen Ali joined the skipper Joe Root then. England had high hopes from skipper Root; however, their hopes crumbled when Josh Hazlewood took his wicket on the 5th ball of the 3rd over of the day.
Only Jonny Bairstow could resist the Australian bowling and added 36 runs for England and he was the last to get out. For England Moeen Ali scored 2 runs while Craig Overton and Sturat Broad added 7 and 8 runs respectively. James Anderson did not anything to the scoreboard and remained not out.
Mitchell Starc took 5 wickets; however, it was Josh Hazlewood who crashed English hopes with two wickets in two overs early in last day’s play. Nathan Lyon took 2 wickets while Pat Cummins took 1 wicket.
Now Australia is 2-0 up in the series and it will be tough for England to come back but they have enough talent to forget this drubbing and come back hard. Also they are the current winners of Ashes so they just need to draw the series and Australia will need to wait more for Ashes. Both teams will now move to Perth for the third Ashes test starting from 14th December.
Australia would like to keep winning while England would like to turn around the Ashes 2017 for them. Keep visiting us for the latest Sports news and don’t forget to share your thoughts in the Comments section.
