Andre Russell and Rishabh Pant heroics help Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals win their matches on first Super Sunday

Double Header on Super Sunday

What a Sunday! The first super Sunday of the eleventh season of Indian Premier League had two big matches. Kolkata Knight Riders played against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens in Kolkata while Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capital played against each other at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

In first match of the double header Kolkata Knight Riders played against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad batted first and with the comeback man David Warner hitting 85 off 53 balls and Vijay Shankar scoring 40* off 24 balls they scored 181 in 20 overs. For Kolkata Knight Riders Andre Russell took 2 wickets for 32 runs. Piyush Chawla took 1 wicket for 23 runs.

In reply Nitish Rana scored 68 off 47 balls; however, everything looked gloomy for them as they needed 76 off 34 balls. And then came Andre Russell who scored 49 off 19 balls hitting 4 sixes and 4 fours as Kolkata Knight Riders scored 183 with 2 balls remaining and won the match by 6 wickets.

Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals

In second match Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians played played against each other at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan started the inning for Delhi Capitals . Shkhar Dhawan and Colin Ingram scored 43 off 36 balls and 47 off 32 balls respectively. With few quick wickets Mumbai Indians was back in the game. Then Rishabh Pant scored 78 off 27 balls hitting 7 sixes and 7 fours. Delhi Capitals ended with a massive score of 213-6. For Mumbai Mitchell McClenaghan took 3 wickets.

In reply Mumbai Indians could only score 176 as they were all out in 19.2 overs. Yuvraj Singh and Krunal Pandya were the only ones who played well for Mumbai. Yuvraj Singh scored 53 off 35 balls while Krunal Pandya scored 32 off 15 balls. No other batsman could do much. For Delhi Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada took 2 wickets each as Mumbai Indians lost the match by 37 runs.
