The much hyped bout between Indian boxer Vijender Singh and his Chinese counterpart Zulpikar Maimaitiali lived up to the expectations. Bout was witnessed by 5000 spectators in the stadium and millions on television. There were many celebrity in the audience which included Sr and Jr Bachchan, Dino Morea, Sonu Sood, Gulshan Grover, Karan Kundra and many others.

First-Fifth round

Both the boxers played caustiosly in the first round trying to judge each other’s tactics. First round ended without much action. In the second round both the boxers started to get into action and it saw many punches. Vijender looked a bit jaded against the Chinese boxer. Third round also saw Vijender a bit behind Maimaitiali; however, he landed fewmpunches in both second and third round.

Maimaitiali looked a bit uncomfortable in the fourth and fifth round. Vijender lanedd some heavy punches in both these rounds; however, Maimaitiali was not far behind. He tried to match Vijender blow by blow. Both the boxers were fighting intensely.

Sixth-Tenth round

The sixth round was ferocious. Referee had to come many times between both the boxers. Maimaitiali went for a low punch twice and was warned by the referee. Maimaitiali accurately landed punches while Vijender was a bit off. The seventh round saw both the boxers equaling each other.

As the bout went to the eight round both the boxers tried to stepped up; however, in the dying seconds of the round Maimaitiali landed two heavy punches on Vijender in the corner. In the ninth round Maimaitiali landed another low blow. Miamiatiali was very aggressive and Vijender received multiple punches in this round. Blood was pouring from his nose. In last round Vijender to regained and landed few accurate punches.

This was time for the result now. All three judges awarded Vijender Singh unanimously. Points were as close as it could be. As soon as Charu Sharma announced his name the crowd erupted. With this win Vijender Singh won both WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight championship and WBO Oriental Super Middleweight champion.
