It was time for some tough Tennis in Wimbledon 2017 and all four semifinalists didn’t disappoint. In first semi-final Marin Cilic defeated Sam Querrey while Roger Federer defeated Tomas Berdych.
Marin Cilic defeated Sam Querrey 6-7 (6/8) 6-4 7-6 (7/3) 7-5 in first semi-final of the Wimbledon 2017. Match lasted 2hrs 56minutes. The Croation player made it to the Wimbledon’s final in his 11th attempt which is record for the Open era. While Sam Querrey won the first set, Marin Cilic was too much for him in the next three sets. This was a close fight between the two players.
I feel unbelievable, especially the way this tournament has unfolded. From the first round I was playing really great tennis.
“Sam was playing a really high level. I had my chances, and was 4-1 up in the tie-break but didn’t convert that. But after that I think I was better on the return, making him play more on his service games and I thought the level was really high.
“Sam came out serving huge, hitting big. He didn’t seem tight at all, but that pushed me to play big tennis towards the end. I was definitely lucky and glad to get that break back in the fourth set.
“[The final] will definitely be a huge match whoever I play. Tomas [Berdych] is playing really well as well, and Roger [Federer] is playing the best tennis of his career. But for me it’s about playing my own tennis and focusing on my own game.”
In the second Semi-final Roger Federer defeated Tomas Berdych by 76, 7-6, 6-4 and marched into his 11th Wimbledon final. Federer was in top form and had the match under his control from the first point; however, Tomas Berdych fought hard and made Federer run for every point. It will Federer’s 11th Wimbledon final appearance and he will be looking to win his eighth Wimbledon title.
“I feel very privileged to get into another final. I know how much it means to some players to go out on Centre Court at any time in their career, and I’ve done it so many times and now get to do it in a final again.
“I can’t quite believe it. I’m glad I have a day off tomorrow to get ready.
“It was a long way back last year was so diffiuclt to stay calm and speak to the ttam and take the decision to wait a bit longer and take more time out. I’m so glad I did it because I gave my body a rest and got to have a life outside of tennis.
“There were doubts I’d never come back and play on Centre Court, but I’ve done it many times and would like to thank Wmbledon for putting me on Centre Court every match this year.
“Last year against [Sunday’s final opponent] Marin [Cilc] was brutal. I got really lucky to win. He’s a lovely guy, I’m happy for him he’s in his first Wimbledon final. He crushed me at the US Open final a couple of years ago. Hopefully he won’t play like that again.”
