The ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 has just ended and it has been a phenomenal journey for Indian Women’s Cricket. Now as they come back to home, Indian Men are getting ready for their next assignment. India vs Sri Lanka will be the beginning of the Indian overseas grind this season.
After a long drama covering the coach appointment, focus is back on the Cricket field and India will look to stamp their authority on their neighbor who are going through a tough time. India last played a test series against Australia and it was as exciting as it could be. India won the test series against Australia by 2-1 and would like to start their long overseas season with a win.
Indian batting is very strong on papers with Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma opening the innings. KL Rahul will miss the match due to fever. At number three Chetheshwar Pujara will be solidifying the batting. Skipper Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Wriddhiman Saha will be next three. Indian batting will rely on these six top batsmen; however, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the lower order can make valuable contributions.
In bowling department India have the services of Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav and the lethal duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. India can play with three spinners and in that case Kuldeep Yadav will get a chance. In pace department India can go with Umesh Yadav and Bhuvenshwar Kumar with three spinners in the side.
In regards to Sri Lanka they have been bogged down by their recent performance against Zimbabwe. It has been long since Mahela and Sangakara have retired and no other batsman came good consistently. They would want to have good performance by Upul Tharanga, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Asela Gunaratne. In bowling the experienced Rangana Herath will be the key. He will also have to command his troops as Angelo Mathews has stepped down.
The first Test match between both the teams will be played at the Galle International Stadium, Galle.
