This was a virtual knockout game between India and New Zealand in ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. ICC Women’s World Cup 2017India defeated New Zealand in a one sided match by 186 runs. Match was played at County Ground, Derby.

New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first. India started with Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut. Both were out without any significant contribution and India were 21-2 soon. Skipper Mithali Raj then joined Harmanpreet Kaur and added 132 runs for the third wicket. Harmanpreet Kaur was out after scoring 60 in 90 balls. Deepti Sharma was out for duck and Indian team was 154-4. Veda Krishnamurti then joined the skipper. She was very aggresive and scored 70 of 45 balls. India scored 265-7 after their quota of 50 overs.

For New Zealand Leigh Kesperek took 3 wickets. Hanna Rowe took 2 wickets while Lea Tahuhu took 1 wicket.

In reply New Zealand started with Suzie Bates and Rachel Priest and they had a very bad start. Both the openers were out cheapely and they were 7-2. New Zealand could not get any partnership and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only Amy Satterthwaite, Katey Martin and Amelia Kerr could get to 2 digits score as they scored 26, 12 and 12 respectively. No other New Zealand player could get to 2 digits score. No New Zealand player had any plan for Rajeshwari Gayakwad. At last they were out for 79 in 25.3 runs.

For India Rajeshwari Gayakwad was the pick of the lot as shee took 5 wickets for 15 runs. Deepti Sharma took 2 wickets for 26 runs. Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey and Poonam Yadav took 1 wicket each. Mithali Raj was declared player of the match for her brilliant batting.

In other ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 result: Australia defeated South Africa by 59 runs while England defeated West Indies by 92 runs.
