Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to chase the target. For Rising Pune Supergiant Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi started the proceedings. Rahul Tripathi was back into the hut soon without scoring anything. Skipper Steve Smith was also caught out and RPS were reeling at 9-2. Rahane and Manoj Tiwary then played sensibly and took the score to 89 when Rahane was out. That was over 12.4. After Rahane was out MS Dhoni came out to bat. Runs were not coming easily. Rising Pune Supergiant were 121/3 after 18 overs and it was not looking good for them and then MS Dhoni showed why he is celebrated so much. With 5 sixes he hit 40 in 26 balls and RPS scored 41 runs in last 2 overs.
For Mumbai Indians Mitchell McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga, Karn Sharma took 1 wicket each. Lasith Malinga was economical and gave only 14 runs in 3 overs.
Mumbai Indians came out to bat to chase the target. Wicket was slow and bat was not coming on to the bat. Lendl Simmons was run out cheaply and after that except Parthiv Patel no other batsmen could spend time on crease. Steve Smith brought Washington Sundar in the last over of power play and he didn’t disappoint his captain as he took the wicket on the first ball. Parthiv Pately continue to score runs while wickets were falling down at regular interval at other end. He was out in 15th over after scoring 52 of 40 balls. After 20 overs Mumbai Indians could only score 142 runs after losing 9 wickets.
For Rising Pune Supergiant Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets each. Jaydev Unadkat and Lockie Ferguson took 1 wicket each.
Washington Sundar was declared man of the match. Rising Pune Supergiant will now move to Hyderabad and will play with the winner of the Qualifier 2 on 21st May.
