Riding in the wet conditions MotoGP rookie Johann Zarco fought his way through to claim his first ever pole in MotoGP. Marc Marquez finished 2nd, Danilo Petrucci finished 3rd. Valentino Rossi on his happy hunting ground finished 4th position.

Last two race winner Andrea Dovizioso, fell early and could manage 9the place in the qualifying race. The world championship leader Maverick Vinales could manage only 11th position in wet conditons.
